I've carried the 92, 96 and Glocks for duty weapons and my preference is the Glock. Better trigger pull and unless the Beretta is a DA only, I can't stand the decocker and in the 96 after you decock the gun, itstays on fire and is unable to be put on safe. I know the Glock cannot be put on safe either, but its just a better choice in my opinion. And I shoot it better too.

What? On the model 96 the safety is a safety/decocker. When the hammer is back, if you flip the safety to "safe" the hammer falls(decocking the gun)and the gun is on safe.Maybe I'm misreading your post. I do agree that a Glock is a fine firearm but not as good as Sig.

96G-SD Hi Capacity 11 round mag
.40 S&W
Developed to meet Special Duty law enforcement requirements. Ideal for competition shooting. With 'G' decock-only mechanism.
Even in the picture, you will notice the decocker has a red dot on it. It cannot be put on safe.

I very much like the fit and finish of Sigs. But the Glock allows the shooter's hand to get so much higher up on the pistol - ie. more in line with the bore. I find Glocks to be a lot better about getting back on target quickly for a rapid second or third shot. The Beretta is another quality handgun - although the original Model 92 9MM is still the best, IMO. But of all of them, I can still shoot a customized Colt 1911 the best. May have more to do with the great single action trigger than anything.

hunterdeneugene,
I guess we are both correct as Beretta makes em both ways. The model Beretta I carry while on duty is the96 FS. Thesafety/decocking leveracts as decocker and safety. If the hammer is back and ready to fire, you can decock the pistol by sliding the safety/decocking lever downto the safe position. This decocks the pistol and it is on safe.
Here are the descriptions of the different models of Beretta 92/96 series of pistols. About 2/3 of the way down the page it describes the different models.

Yep, the previous dept I worked for we carried the 92 FS. When we switched to the 40 it was the 96 G, decocker but no safety. In the dept I work for now the issue weapon is the 92 D, double action, no safety. I do not like the trigger pull on the Berettas. Now Beretta shotguns on the other hand.....
