I guess we are both correct as Beretta makes em both ways. The model Beretta I carry while on duty is the96 FS. Thesafety/decocking leveracts as decocker and safety. If the hammer is back and ready to fire, you can decock the pistol by sliding the safety/decocking lever downto the safe position. This decocks the pistol and it is on safe.
