.270 win and .270 wsm cartridge question
#1
I went to purchase ammo for my .270 today at a local privately owned super store kinda thing that sells sporting goods, farm supplies and equipment, home stuff, etc. and when I walked up to the sporting goods counter and asked to price some .270 winchester rounds the kid pulls out a box of .270 wsm. It was very apparent that this wasn't what I needed when he opened the box and saw how short and fat the casings were. I told him that wasn't what I was wanting but he argued up and down with me that I was holding a box of .270 win and acted offended when I told him it really wasn't what I wanted.
Now, hopefully I didn't confuse you. This guy made me second guess myself and wonder if both rounds work in a regular ol' savage .270 or did he just not know what he was talking about?
FYI - I just said "thank you" and headed across the street to Walmart where I knew they'd hand me what I asked for hehe.

Unfortunately, Donnie, this happens a lot, and, many times, the "hunter" will not even catch the error of the associate who hands him the wrong ammo, until he's out in the field and ready to go hunting. You should always check anything the associate hands you, and luckily, you did, Donnie.

What did they hand you at Wal-Mart, 7mm?

hehe I "know" the guy that works the counter during the day at that walmart so he takes care of me.

You did the right thing by making sure that "the customer is always right" and the customer service guy would have been better served to have done the same thing. But taking your bussiness to Wallmart was the ultimate slap in the face.[&:] I hate Wallmart with a passion, but unfortunately they usually do have what I need and I find myself going there more and more as the specialty shops are getting more and more scarce around here as a result.

aside from the fact that I have walmart stock and want them to do VERY well as a result here's an example of why i dont' mind walmart:
sims limbsaver recoil pad at walmart is 19.99
the exact same thing, same size, brand, everything at one local shop is 34.99
and I don't know about you guys but I can't afford to pay an extra 15 bucks just to "help out the little guy" I understand they are trying to make a living but having a ridiculous mark-up like that isn't helping anybody.

The thing is, at least for myself, if the other stores around would at least have descent customer service I would happily pay the extra 5-15% for it. But unfortunately most stores end up cutting on the help to keep costs down and then expect you to service yourself with all of the good stuff behind the counter..... It just doesnt work for me.

For guns and gun accessories, you can't really beat Wal Mart prices.

Oddly enough though, that store is actually cheaper on the majority of their calls and clothing than walmart. Hmmph...go figure.
