All of my ballistics tables are showing that the .300 WSM may be going a bit faster, and have more energy at the muzzle, but the .300 Win Mag quickly overtakes it at 100 yards. So, you are wrong, The .300 Win Mag has more energy and velocity than the .300 WSM at ranges of 100 yards and over.
How in the world can this be true?
Check the ballistics, of regular hunting bullets, not Nosler Accubond, or anything like that, because, ammo companies, use a premium bullet, with a high BC, and propel it to higher velocites than the .300 Win Mag with tha same bullet, giving the .300 WSM, the appearance of being a better cartridge, go to the Federal ammo website, and compare the 180 Soft Point ammo, and you will see what I mean. Also, the .300 Win Mag has an advantage with heavier weight bullets, and with a handloader, the .300 Win Mag, easily outdoes the .300 WSM. But with lighter weight bullets, and factory ammo, the .300 WSM is loaded to a higher velocity, and more energy.

Reread this post. What you are saying is impossible. If the bullets are the same weight and one starts out faster it will stay faster until they both hit the ground. There is no difference in resistance as they are the same diameter.

So you are saying the 300 WSM with factory ammo is faster. Thank you.

WOW....this just got real funny. I am never amazed on here.

Lets spell it out for some. Without looking at ballistic tables....the logic or lack of, of a post.

I will spell it out for you.

300 Win Mag shooting a 200 Grain Nosler Partition or whatever bullet you want to shoot, but shoot the same one in each gun.
VS
300 WSM shooting the same 200 grain bullet shot above.

If the WSM is shooting the same bullet faster at the muzzle.....how in the heck does the 300 Win pass it at 100 yards. I wasn't aware the 300 win has speacial after burners on each bullet.

Stop comparing apples to oranges....use the same bullet. Its elementary.

At the muzzle, yes, but you made the statement that the .300 WSM has better downrange energy. And that is incorrect.http://www.federalpremium.com/ballis...arm=1&s1=1
Compare the .300 Win Mag PowerShok, to the .300 WSM PowerShok. 180 Gr.
