Yeah, if I had to choose only one it would be very hard to give up my .22 Winchester single shot. Very accurate gun. Not to mention it was my grandfathers dads gun.....

My new favorite caliber is the .338 Win mag, it just plain beats the heck out of any .30 cal for the big, heavy, stuff.

Why? I thought the 300 WSM was quicker.
I don't believe any of the stuff I hear about the .300 WSM, I don't care about the length of the bolt, I don't care about the weight, the .300 WSM is just a more expensive little brother to the .300 Win Mag.
The WSM is a faster round and delivers more energy at comparableranges regardless of what you care to believe so I guess thismakes it the bigger brother.

I see someone's been reading the Winchester catalog, a little too much. If you are naive enough to believe that, then you are naive enought to buy the gun, and you did both.:D

I would love to see your data for a 200 Gr. load in the .300 WSM, And then we'll compare it to the .300 Win Mag's.

All of my ballistics tables are showing that the .300 WSM may be going a bit faster, and have more energy at the muzzle, but the .300 Win Mag quickly overtakes it at 100 yards. So, you are wrong, The .300 Win Mag has more energy and velocity than the .300 WSM at ranges of 100 yards and over.

In all honesty, it makes no difference in the field or at the range, but, its fun to argue.:D

Just going off ballistic charts I have seen. I have a 300 Win Mag BAR but am considering a 300 WSM short trac. Everything I have heard from multiple sources point to the 300 WSM edging the Win Mag. Problem with the BAR is it's too heavy and it is made of wood. Additionally I have been told that the wood will chip on magnum BAR's. Shot it a few times but really don't like the weight.

Shot at a buck in Kansas last week with my 308 BLR. Inside 100', this was a dead deer. Touched off the shot and expected the deer to fall. I was sitting in a ground blind made of branches and clipped a twig in my blind in the predawn light. So now I am holding an empty gun, watching the deer go back to grazing the alfalfa.

Ran the lever as fast as I could trying to duplicate the quickness of the noise as close as the shot was so he could not tell where I was. Caught the empty as it exited the gun so had to rip it out. Deer is now walking away and did not turn until he was 150 yards out. Killed him but I really like autos for the fact they have the second shot ready when you need it hence the BAR short trac.

Now need to decide on a 300 WSM or 308. Haven't been able to find anyone that has a 300 WSM short trac Browning. I have until next season so I will keep looking.....

How in the world can this be true?
