I allways wear them when shooting,But when I am hunting it's a different story.Monday was the first day to fire it without mufs.I was pumped to and my adrenilin was pumping when I seen the deer.It didn't help though. My ears are still ringing today.I can deal with the recoil,no problem there at all,This was my first brake gun and thought I would try it out the brake system. For varmit when you got time to put on mufs or earplugs prob not bad.But for deer hunting, carrying mufs or earplugs around don't seam logical unless you got a blind deer.

I can top all of that! Try shooting a Mosin Nagant with a muzzle break, and then tell me about loud guns...Its one of the most shell-shocking guns I have ever shot, or stood next to!

I shot mine today without the muzzle brake on,And the point of aim didn't seam to change as I thought it shouldn't of.A lot better on my ears to boot.I don't know if actually makes that much of a difference adjusting the settings on them to be more accurate or not.I wouldn't say it would be noticable to a deer hunter though.

Of course that varies from rifle to rifle. In some cases the point of impact is the same with or without the brake, and in some cases it varies.

I have always posted this whenever a muzzle brake topic comes up. At the range I shoot with muffs on plugs...no matter what rifle I am shooting, brake or no brake.

In the field I use QB2'S. A banded ear plug. Around my neck. I had this buck running in the open....popped them in my ears and shot him on the second shot. Yup I missed, but I was able to get the plugs in and get off two shots. Sothey are fast and easy. I use them on all rifle shots, brake or no brake. My hearing is too important to sacrifice.

Another story. I wasshooting my Weatherby30-378 at the range and some idiot shows up with two kids...nobody had hearing protection. There musthave been ten guns going off. He set up right next to me...I warned him on the bang, he said oh no problem it won't bother me. I insisted the kids stepback and plug their ears. They listened but notPop. I told himagain, nope I am fine. I shot and my buddy told me it looked like someone blindsided him from the side. He left and returned to the range with hearing protection. When that rangegoes hot...u better have urhearing protection on. I put mine onbefore I step out of the truck.

I hate muzzle brakes. Will never own one. Every man likes what he likes and hates what he hates. To each his own.

I was glad to see this thread. I have been wanting to muzzle break my 300 short mag. Now that I read these posts, I could see the noise making me want to flinch as much as the recoil does, though. Can I get one that can be removed if I don't like it? Does anyone have an idea of what it would cost?

I also have to say that my friendly rifle range is not a reason to avoid a muzzle break. Several shooters have breaks and we all just wear ear plugs. No plugs, no range. I never heard anyone say there was a problem.

my muzzle break on my 300 RUM can be screwed off and an end cap placed on to look like a regular crown. Just tell your gunsmith that you want to be able to take it on and off.
