I have always posted this whenever a muzzle brake topic comes up. At the range I shoot with muffs on plugs...no matter what rifle I am shooting, brake or no brake.
In the field I use QB2'S. A banded ear plug. Around my neck. I had this buck running in the open....popped them in my ears and shot him on the second shot. Yup I missed, but I was able to get the plugs in and get off two shots. Sothey are fast and easy. I use them on all rifle shots, brake or no brake. My hearing is too important to sacrifice.
Another story. I wasshooting my Weatherby30-378 at the range and some idiot shows up with two kids...nobody had hearing protection. There musthave been ten guns going off. He set up right next to me...I warned him on the bang, he said oh no problem it won't bother me. I insisted the kids stepback and plug their ears. They listened but notPop. I told himagain, nope I am fine. I shot and my buddy told me it looked like someone blindsided him from the side. He left and returned to the range with hearing protection. When that rangegoes hot...u better have urhearing protection on. I put mine onbefore I step out of the truck.
