I've said on many occasions that its my personal favorite. I love that I get near 7 mag velocities with less recoil. Its nothing magical I just fell in love with it early on and still have a fondness for it.

I used one for many years. Its about as good as it gets as an all around NA big game rifle. I have stepped down on notch to the 7MM-08 recently. The 280 is a bit more versitile than the 270.

I owna model700 mountain riflein a 280 and absolutely love it.Ive had it for close to 17 years andits still my choice for the deer woods. Many deer have fallen to it in NY and PA.I shoot 140 grain ballistic silvertips through it.The best factory ammo in my opinion.

I shot my First and only elk with the 280. It was my guide's rifle. Mine had been dropped out of the jeep and we were not sure it was zeroed. It was a pre 64 winchester model 70. I asked the guide what ammo he was using. All he knew was that they were 140 grain remingtons and they were 10 years old. I hit the 5x5 elk in the right spot. It was perfect placement but I had an easy shot. The Bull ran 30 yards and dropped. He expired in about 30 seconds. It was pretty dramatic performance. I would take this round any day and will probaly buy a rifle in this caliber soon. I want a 270 too but I will get a 280 first

I bought my first .280 Rem. in 1963. It is a Model 725 Rem., and I still own it. I killed lots of deer with it, first with factory ammo, then with my own reloads later on. It is one great caliber. I then went on to the 7mm Mag for about 20 years, and now I am in love with my 7mm-08. The "Sevens" are great deer killers and most have excellent accuracy potential.
I also own a Ruger 77V in .280 that I never seriously worked up a load for, as I bought a Swift right after that. All in all, I guess I would have to say that the .280 is one of the best "all-around" calibers you could own.
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it..............
