Best maker would probably be Cooper. But for a regular guy, like me, probably the CZ. I have a Savage in HMR and it is a great gun. But I replaced the crappy stock trigger with a good one. Mine did not come with the accu trigger. A buddy of mine just bought a Savage with the accu trigger, and he is contemplating a new one as well. I was planning on buying a CZ, but they had this one mis-priced. I got the heavy Stainless BBL with laminated stock for $199 which was supposed to be the price of the blue/walnut model.

I have a blued marlin in 17 HMR and its probably one of the most accurate rifles that ive ever owned or shot. I highly reccommend any rifle in 17 HMR.

I have the Savage and I really like it. But like longrifle, I replaced the heavy factory trigger with a Rife-Basix trigger. This rifle is extremely accurate. I've had it for two years now and have taken 2 turkeys and a bushel of squirrels with it. And now that they are making them with the Accutrigger that would be my choice.

Anschutz, Cooper, Dakota and Kimber are all considered pretty well made and accurate rimfire rifles......though you are going to pay more for them. They are head and shoulders above the rest

I have the Savage with Accu-trigger and have been very impressed with it.
A cheap 3X9 scope on it and it is stillextremely accurate for the price.

Well there you go A7X. Looks like the vote is in. You can get the Savage with the Accutrigger for <$200 or pay a bunch more for a rifle that isn't going to shoot any better!!

That is not true at all. The Savage is a fine rifle. But a Cooper is a whole lot better in fit, finish, AND accuracy. I have shot a Cooper next to my Savage. And the difference is night and day. The Savage is accurate enough, for most needs. But the Cooper shoots much better. It just really boils down to what you want to spend, and what level of accuracy you are looking for.
