New Varmint rifle??
I just can't make up my mind on this...I'm looking to add a dedicated varmint rifle to the battery...always in the past I've just used target rifles for varmints, ALL business, stainless/synthetic, heavily accurizedand ugly, but outstanding shooters...now I want something a little finer to look at that will still pass muster on coyotes and P-dogs.
I'm looking ata .22-250 in
1) a Savage 12BVSS Stainless/laminate target rifle
2) a Ruger Mark II M-77 Target inStainless/laminate
3) a Remington 700 VLS in blued/laminate
4) CZ-527 blued/laminate
The price tags are all basically the same. I haven't had any experience with the CZ's other than the 550's in safari cartridges, and I'd really rather prefer the stainless guns, but I'm open eitherway. I'm wanting a gun that will shoot great out of the box but will likely take quite a bit of accurizing work readily, and I want it to look as good as it shoots.
I figure the ruger trigger will need replacing right away, which isn't a problem, and I figure the savage trigger is the best, even if the fit and finish are probably the worst.
What's the general opinion? Which would you choose? And why?

For long range shooting the .22's wont compare to the .243. check balistics on the .243 using the Federal 85 gr sierra gamking holow point.
It about as flat shotingas the 55 gr .22-250 but bucks the wind a whole lot better. Just a suggestion.

I have the ruger if you look at the thread titled my .220 swift it will show you one of my targets. I never had to do anything to that rifles trigger. I did do my 300 win mag trigger for 35.00. I really like the old swift it is a great shooter.

Get the Savage model 12FV (blued heavy barrel) in 22-250 and just shoot it. Nothing really needs to be done except maybe the stock upgrade. Trigger is great, barrel is awesome and it will shoot cheap WWB 45 gr very nicely. Buy it and if you don't like it, let me know. I'd be interested in another one.

I suggest the Savage but then I have soft spot for anything that will shoot as well as they tend to. The others are good guns but for the money I'd bet on the Savage. All the accurizing it will need is some tweaking on the reloading bench!

RE: New Varmint rifle??
I have a savage modle 12bvss paid $599.00 at gander mountain. The only draw back is it's heavy but that doesn't bother me much. To be completely honest I barely shoot it any more since I finished my ar15 predator rifle but the gun is VERY accurate (subMOA) especially for the money. I believe for the money you can not gowrong with the savage it looks good to but I camoflaged mine.
