Man when is Winchester going to bring out a .338WSM. I really like the WSM's but have a .270 and don't really want a .300. Just really wish they'd hurry up with this one. Any one in kahoots with Winchester that knows something or knows someone who is?

I would actually like to see something in between, say, an 8mm WSM. It could be loaded with 170-220gr bullets, with the 200gr being the best all-around weight. It would be an amazing stopper of all North American big game.

Why bother, the 06 already does it.

Yes I know, but so does my .270. I want a .338 for moose one day and to use something different sometimes when elk hunting. Besides if everyone used an 06 then what would we talk about on here. The 8mm is great but that caliber isn't popular enough for them to load it.

Yep that is the problem with the 8mm it would be a great performer but after what happened to Remington with the 8mm Rem mag they aren't about to do that. Off the top of my head you would probably get 2900 with a 200 grain whatever in the 338 wsm and that along with a nosler 210 and no bigger would be optimum in that cartridge. It would be about a 200 fps improvement over the 338-06 . I am betting it is coming out in the next year seems to be a lot of demand for it, I would have thought it would be here already. Now if they can make those short actioned brownings and Winchester SS guns actions work smoother I would be a bigger fan. I was disappointed with that aspect of those rifles and I have both of them now in 300 wsm. I still like a long smooth bolt throw in my rifles.

The 338wsm would be great also but what I want to know is when are they going to bring out a left handed wsm anything? I'll probably buy the first one to rechamber to 7-08. The second might be a 338 wsm if they offered it. Being a lefty, the short action market is really depressing. If anyone has any contacts in Winchester or Remington, there is a huge left handed market out there. They all shoot 270's and 06's cause that's all you will sell them.

what about a 358WSM??

What if they called it the .323 WSM instead of 8mm? How about the .320 WSM? Or the .325 WSM?

Could you imagine a nicer long range deer round than the 8mm 170gr Sierra Pro Hunter or 180gr Nosler Ballistic tip at just over 3000fps? Or what kind of elk medicine the 8mm 200gr Nosler Partition would be at 2900fps? Wouldn't a 220gr Swift A-Frame at 2800fps be adequate for even brown bears?

Would any of you guys buy it?

Even more than that, I would love to see both the 8mm/08 and the 8mm-06 loaded commercially. Having a really bad shoulder, this might give a recoil-sensitive guy like myself an opportunity to own a rifle with some serious knockdown power on the front side of the muzzle, rather than the rear.

My big thing is that I want a larger than 30 cal. mag rifle. I have never been a big fan of belted magnum cases and don't really see a need for me to have a magnum 30 cal. and under. I'd just get a 30-06 but my 270 will do everything that I would want the 06 to do. If I can't get within 300 yards or less then I wouldn't take the shot anyway under hunting conditions. I would buy the 8mmWSM but I would still be afraid that the rest of the public wouldn't and it's fate would be the same as the 8mm mag and then there goes factory ammo. Also the .338 bullets are more readily and widely available than the 8mm. I just don't thing it would get a good enough following.
