I mounted my scope today. I have a 50 mm objective, so when looking at the scope chart for Warne mounts, it indicated that I would need a High mount. The rings are for Weaver style base. The gun is a Win 300 wsm Super shadow. My question is when I mounted the scope, it is 2 inches above the center of the bore. Is that OK? I checked a ballistic software, and it showed a flatter trajectory than a mount of 1.5 inches. What is the best hight to mount a scope? I have almost a 1/2 inch of space between the objective lens and the barrel, should I consider a medium hight mount?

Close your eyes and shoulder the rifle so it fits comfortably and your cheek is snug on the buttstock.Open your eyes and see if you are looking through the very center of the scope. If you are,the scope is mounted the right height for you.If you have to lift your head to look through the very center of the scope,it is mounted too high for you.

Rule of thumb, mount as low as possible. Be realistic about how far you will be shooting, the difference in high/med probably will not be noticeable. Keep the mounts you have, buy practice bullets, learn the ballistics of your gun.

SJ explained what the proper height should be for individuals, follow his instructions to see how it pertains to your situation.
However as far as warne rings go,med rings will accept most scopes upto 44mm objective. I have a 44mm Zeiss with warne maxima Med rings/bases, Idon't feel their is enough room to move up in objective size. I'd guess high rings will be what you'll need for 50mm, warne or otherwise. However try giving Warne a call and they'll be able to tell you if a med ring would work for your setup.
Good Luck
