To mount my Leupold Dual Dovetail rings, should I screw the bases in, put the rings in them, then to get the rings in place, turn the rings w/ a 1" dowel? This won't rip the base screws out of my rifle will it?

Thanks for the heads up. What kind of grease do you use? Would gun oil work too? What's the best way to make sure the rings are perfectly lined up?

If your rings are lined up right after mounting them,one doesn,t have to do this process called lapping. It just a gunch of hoopla tha some guys started to sell something. If you lapp your rings it will make them smoother,and then your scope has more chance to move in them due to recoil.Why do you think,the rings are prescisiion machined for? Forget that lapping but thats just MO. vangunsmith
