Custom Rifle what action would you choose and why?

Mausers are great, but I don't think they make them any more right?? I know you can get just about all the others brand new. The Ruger action is a Mauser copy right??

1. Toss up between a 1903 springfield or a mauser 98 action- strong actions, very reliable, positive safeties, bolt handles never break off, good looking.
2. Remington 700 if I wanted a varmint or bench shooting rig.
CZ has been making them for about 90 years, Zastava for nearly as long, Winchester and Rugers are modern interpretations of the mauser 98, though IMO not as good as the original.

Still surprised by Winchesters poor showing

I said earlier that for a reliable hunting rifle I'd choose the Winchester orMauser, but I voted for the Winchester (pre '64 version) because to me it's not as "clunky" (for lack of a better term) as the Mauser. To me it has all the featuresI'd want for the perfect big game hunting rifle: claw extractor, amazingly simple trigger, field strippable bolt, 3 position safety, blade ejector,etc... All these things add up toreliability in the field and there's no reason why it can't be very accurate to boot. I continue to be impressed by how accurate my bone stock .30-06 of 1959 vintage is.
