If you were to build a custom rifle which of the below actions would you choose and why would you choose them?
[ol][*]Remington 700[*]WInchester Model 70[*]Mauser 98 or any other Modern Mauser(CZ,Zastava)[*]Savage[*]Ruger 77[*]Browning Abolt[*]Sako[*]Howa[*]MRC 1999[/ol]
Added #7 Sako action to list and #8 Howa..somehow omitted those
What I am looking for is the perfect balance between reliability and accuracy and other factors that would make the Rifle user friendly. It will be a big game rifle.

the mauser 08 action had been said to be the strongest action ever made..and most bolt actions are copies of it....but ive also heard good about the m700 action too...today....i dont think it matters all that much depending on the caliber.....most actions are suitable for most guys needs...but if im putting the money into a custom rifle im putting the best action in it i can afford....

Remington 700 for ease of use and dependability, also lots of parts available. They are also very accurate, used on many sniper and custom guns. Definatly recommend over the Savage, Winchester, etc... The Mauser actions (also Ruger 77) are strong and accurate just harder to find.

It would help to know the purpose of said custom rifle. Is tack driving accuracy for long range shots necessary or is reliable functioning more important? In other words, what would it be primarily used for?
If accuracy is most important I suppose I'd go with a Rem. 700. If reliability was most important I'd probably go with a Winchester 70 (pre '64 preferably) or Mauser 98 type action.
