Custom Rifle what action would you choose and why?

If I was only getting the action I would probably go with the Savage, Howa, or Remington for their strength of action. Mauser would probably top the list though. I would probably add Weatherby up there also. I love Sakos, but I consider their strong suite to be barrells.

I would choose a Model 70. Have had so any over the years, as well as Remington, Savage, Browning and the Model 70's just shoot smooth and accurate. Also is seems fewer mechanical issues.
Winchester is however downsizing quite a bit and some of the newer after market parts have been problematic.
My second would be Remington 700 BDL.

How about a Remington 700 with a Sako extractor and a Ruger 3-position safety!?!? Although I like the safety on my 700pss better, you can open the bolt whether on safety or not.

One more vote for the Mauser, I have an Argintine 1909 in .308win and love it. Next would be Ruger. One thing to remember is that Ruger M77, Winchester 70, Charles Daly, Montana 1999, Remington 798 are all variants of the original Mauser.
