Still surprised by Winchesters poor showing
Me too, at leastto a certain extent. If you posed thisquestion on a different site, though, you'd probably end up with different results.
I said earlier that for a reliable hunting rifle I'd choose the Winchester orMauser, but I voted for the Winchester (pre '64 version) because to me it's not as "clunky" (for lack of a better term) as the Mauser.To me it has all the featuresI'd want for the perfect big game hunting rifle: claw extractor,amazingly simple trigger, field strippable bolt, 3 position safety,blade ejector,etc... All these things add up toreliability in the field and there's no reason why it can't be very accurate to boot. I continue to be impressed by how accurate my bone stock .30-06 of 1959 vintage is.
