I know that this is very speculative, but wanted your opinions. I've heard good things about Hornady LEVERevolution ammo and will try it soon in my 30-30, but does anyone see this brining back the .307 Win or that Win or Marlin will begin to chamber the 94 or 336 in .308 Win?

By the way, if this ammo proves as good as it says, I might hold off buying that BLR for quite a while.

If they could have they would have already but that 308 case is a bit too much pressure for that action. Revolution is marketing hype and too many people that should know better are buying into it. Selling a 300 dollar riflefor 600+ dollars is pretty slick though.

Well unfortunately the 94 is no more. Winchester has closed the plant and there will be no more 94's or 70's.
Im sure the hornady ammo will be good as pretty much everything hornady makes is.I personally would stick with a 308 due to the fact that the 307 is not very popular and may disappear while the 308 will be around forever.

OEH, I'm interested in what you see as being "hype". I don't know much about the pressure issue in the Lever Guns, but I was assiming that since the 94 was chambered in 307 that it was possible. What would make it in improbable? I"m really looking for info from you guys that know a bit more than me.

It's hype for the following reasons:

a. They have jacked up the price of a rifle to that of a BLR or in thesame ballpark

b. Ammunition will only be available from Hornady and is better then flat nosed bullets previously used but still no match for pointed bullets loaded from a magazine system.

c. A BLR uses pointed bullets since it is magazine fed and all its bullets
are better ballistically and its cartridges more powerfulthen anything coming out of a 94 or 336 or pretty much any lever that is tube fed. Handles 22-250 thru 300 win mag. Some people have rebarrelled them for even bigger calibers. Ammo availability no comparison.

d. A BLR is a pretty accurate rifle even by bolt action standards. I have had 3 blrs and the first 2 were very good shooting rifles. The 3rd I haven't shot yet but will one of these days.

Now with that said if Marlin kept their prices the same or a tad higherthen they would be a pretty decent deal but the prices I have seen it simply makes no sense IMHO . 307 was a more powerful round then the 30/30 but it got yanked fast and no it was no match for a 308. Try finding brass for one for starters and then you have to use that flat bullet tip.

Its weird...the 307 had pretty good ballistics for a lever but it still didnt last.

OEH, If I understand you correctly, you're saying that even if they produced a 336 in .308 using the Leverevolution bullet, it still wouldn't match a BLR, so why bother. Did I get it right?

Didn't think about this new ammo giving Marlin the liberty to up the price of their rifles. I was kind of hoping that this would alow Marlin to compete more directly with the BLR and bring down Browning's excessive price tag.

If it truely will be accurate out to 300 yds, or even 250, it will let me get more use out of my 336 and allow me to wait on my BLR until I can better afford it.

It looks like the .307 doesn't have any hope. The 336 in .308 would make more sense than trying to revive a shortlived round.

Pop, I agree with you except for one small detail - I have a 336 in 30-30 that my Dad gave me and prying $600 out of my wife for a rifle is no easy task. I wasn't trying to disuade anyone from a BLR, just was looking for opinions as to whether or not anyone thought that this ammo would encourage Marlin to chamber for the 308 on the 336 platform.

That bullet is not as pointy as what one would use in a 308. first off . You have your choice of bullets because of the magazine vs tube setup
