RE: Your feelings on the 25-06....
I consider the 25-06 a good choice for large deer, I just consider the 270 a bit better. I consider the 270 a fair elk and moose rifle but consider the 30-06 a bit better. I shoot almost all 100 grain bullets in the 25-06 because try as I have, I have not seen the 120 grain bullets be any more effective than the 100 grains for deer. I would use a good 130-140 grain for the 270 95 percent of the time. I may give the 150's a try in the 270 WSM.
Others see flaws in my thinking though. Most of those people are my wife.

RE: Your feelings on the 25-06....
I am probably getting me a 25-06 from stevens...good price and good quality for the price...at the shop i looked at they had it come with a nice scope but I can't remember what it is called...all I know was that I loved the scope/gun combo they had and they took it and sighted the gun in and it shot like 1 inch group from 150 or something like that...so I know its reliably at least....I will definitely buy all the different rounds i can get and see what is working for it...then I will report back on here....thanks for the past and future advice on the 25-06

500 yards. You must be a pretty good shot.

Shooting 500+ yards requires quality optics,I have a 24x Leupold for that range and I lot of time working up the right load...
