For use on deer or smaller game the 25-06 will do anything that the 270win can.For elk or moose, both will work, but neither is ideal.
Yes I agree. But with the extra 30 gr bullet weight you have a better bullet for the above. I don't feel a 100 gr bullet for a coyote is too big either. I just guess that I have never been fond of the 25.06 even though I had one and shot a lot of stuff with it. The .270 does what it does but better so I can't see the point of the 25.06 except to fill your gunsafe with another weapon; and that isn't a bad thing You can also be in bumland, nowhere and always find .270 ammo.

I have a couple of friends that love the caliber, but I personally don't see enough difference in 25-06 to my 270 to justify purchasing a gun in the caliber. If I were starting from scratch, I would probably study it alot harder. I have always viewed it as an "in between" caliber to a 243 and a 270, and since I have both, oh well...JMO

I love the 25-06! Accurate? That's my 500 yard woodchuck caliber and I killed a deer or two with it and 1 pronghorn. Deer size game...
Anything bigger...

500 yards. You must be a pretty good shot.

You are contradicting yourself. You agree that on deer or smaller gamethe 25-06 will do anything that the 270win will, and you agree that neither the 25-06 or the 270win are ideal for elk or moose. So since the 25-06 produces less recoil and shoots a smaller bullet that is more suitable for coyotes and varmints,it is the 270win that has no point other than to fill your gunsafe with another weapon.

I have taken quite a few mulies with the 25-06 and the 270. Two of my favorite cartridges for that purpose. However my my expierence the 270 is a far better choice for big deer. In all my years of using the 270, I have not nor even considered using it for varmits. I will agree that there is no reason it wouldn't work but as a dual purpose deer/varmit, the 25-06 would be my choice. But on another note, I feel the 270 is efficient for elk and moose as well. Just use the right bullet.

North Texan are you reloading the 75 gr or buying factory as this ballistic chart doesn't show a 75 gr?
I reload. I assumed since theyoffered 75 gr. bullets that they probablyoffered them in loaded ammo as well, but that may not be the case.

So you maintain that the 25-06 is not a good choice for a larger deer, yet the 270 is a good choice for elk and moose? In other words a 120 gr bullet out of a 25-06is not a good choice for a 300lb deer, yet a 150gr bullet out of a 270winis a good choice for a 800lb elk or a 1200lb moose.I see a problem with that line of thinking.

You should have the bases covered.
Hmmm, let's see. Maybe a Remington M700 BDL Custum Deluxe in .25-06? Not out of the question!
