Your feelings on the 25-06....

went to the gun shop today and was talking about a great all around gun that I could shoot coyotes with and also be versitile that if i got the itch to go hunting bigger game with it that it could do that job with a good shot....I picked up the Stevens synthetic an loved it for the feel and price...how do you guys like this round and what range are you getting with this rifle to take down coyotes or other varmits??? thanks alot...and I know that there may be a better caliber but I am just curious about this one...thanks

For coyotes and varmints I doubt seriously you can get any hotter and longer range while still keeping a manageable, recoil less, affordable to shoot caliber than the 25/06. If you know how to shoot long ranges it will kill yotes and varmints farther than you can probably see them. For deer sized game if you stick with premium bullets over 100grns and realize it wasn't built for plowing lenghtwise through elk at 300yds, then it will make you a fine "dual purpose" rifle.

About as hot as you can get without going too a "magnum", consider it a "non-mag mag"! ;)

Look at the .270 too. It is versatile for varmints, deer, elk, and caribou sized animals as well.

You're not a fan, are you??

I don't have one but everything I hear is very positive.

Me a fan of the 25/06? Actually I am a "magnumophile" and prefer the .257 Wby too the 25/06, but I had a 25/06 (as well as it's cousins the 270, 280 and 30/06) and know it's capabilities. Petrey asked about that particular caliber so I answered.

The 25-06 will kill deer just as well as a 270win and is more suitable for coyotes and varmints.

I have a good buddy that used to make his living as a huntin guide in Montana and he SWEARS by his 25-06. He says he's killed a couple of cow elk with it, and lots and lots of deer. That gun is in his truck at all times and he says there not a safe cayote with in 500 yards of him!
