Remington 700 youth
#1
OK guys, Little help. I can get a great deal on a 700 youth in 243 for my grandson. Problem is I haven't bought a Remington rifle in years and don't know how their quality is. I have a couple of 700s that shoot like a house on fire but they are older ones. I've also had one or two that wouldn't shoot worth a darn.
Any of you recently purchased a 700, let me know your hones opinion on it.

I bought my son a Model 7 Youth .243, and myself a Model 700 ADL .243 last year and have no complaints about either of them. AFter getting my scope zeroed, my ADLput three shots inside a dime at 100 yards.

thanks ipc, The last Remington I looked at on a dealer's shelf was a 710. Scared the hell out of me. I also heard a lot of talk bad mouthing Rem. lately. Myself, I've been on a Savage streak. My last 4 rifles have been Savages and every one a shooter. I would get my grandson one if I hadn't come upon this deal ($325 NIB Rem 700 youth .243)

I'd like to have a little chat with whoever the bean counter is at Remington who decided to discontinue the 700 ADL. You know it's because they wanted to protect the price point of the 710, which has gotten fairly universal bad reviews.
Not sure where you're from, but here in Texas you can get a 700 ADL Youth for $318 at Academy every day. They also have a Howa youth model, with scope, for, I think, $389. (Howa is the same action as the Weatherby Vanguard.)
I got a deal on my ADL that was impossible to pass up. It was about a week after I had gotten my son's .243 sighted in. I loved the mild recoil. Bass Pro Shops advertised the 700 ADL in .243, .270, and .30-06 for $249. Impossible to pass up that price, regardless of caliber... I already had one in .30-06. The .270 is a virtual twin. And, I really "needed" a new rifle, so my son and I jumped in the truck and headed out to BPS to get me a .243. Traffic was bad, so we stopped at Academy to see whether they matched prices. They said yes. Academy's deal that week was $308, plus a hard case that retailed at $49. So, they matched the $249 price, plus gave me the hard case, which I needed anyway, so my effective price on the ADL was only $200...

I bought a remington 700 in the 30-06 last year and it's a great gun. It shoots well, cleans easy and stands up to my hard use. I also have an 870 youth in a .20 gauge.....it's great. I think if you've got a good deal on one, your grandson will love it.

I sighted in a 700 ADL youth for a buddy a couple of years ago....I first adjusted the trigger to 3 pounds, cleaned the barrel, mounted a 3x9 VX-I Leupold in dual dovetails, bore sighted....Went out to sight it in, as I shoot a .243 I had 7-8 different brands of ammo ready to try...I shot a 3 shot group at 100 yards, two touching the third within 1/4 inch...gun really like Hornady Custom 100gr InterLocks...He had bought the gun for his daughter....she has since killed two does with and he has killed two bucks....one a nice 10 pointer....Previously he had used a Remington auto in 30-06...Hasn't used it in the last couple of years.
