JagMagMan,
You hit it just right. My first season i wasnt ready to take a deer, sure i shot my rifle, and i saw deer, i just couldnt shoot, so my first two seasons i just sat and watched on, and learned. My third season out i shot a buck at 100 yards, i was confident. Some people need more time than others to be able to "drive" and not just sit in the drivers seat.

I've shot a boatload of michigan whitetails with the 243. I have had really good luck with the federal premium 100gr Gameking SBT. I have shot thru both shoulders on several deer with this bullet and load. In a pinch the 100gr winchester PP has performed well for me too. I have had and seen nothing but bad experiences with the remington 100gr corelok though. I shot this one this morning, just over 100 yards, deer ran about 50 yards with good blood trail. Took out the heart and lungs. For what its worth I have seen deer shot well with a 30/06 run just as far with little or no blood trail as well. My nieghbor shot one a few years back with his 30/06 with 150gr corelok, deer ran about 90 yards in a semi circle, not a drop of blood to be found. It just happened to die on the guys trail he drives his 4 wheeler on so he found it on his way home that night.
