300 WM, WSM or Weatherby?

Which one is the best? Ballistics wise, I know Weatherby is, but how much more reocil will it produce than the others? WSM has the advantage of being small and allowing lighter rifles, but in a magnum that's not always good and it doesn't handle heavy bullet weights good. Winchester Mag is the most common and from what I've heard most versatile, but lots of stores have more WSM than WM around here.

I would go either with the 300wsm or the 300wm as both offer nearly the same performance. My own personal preference is for heavier guns,so I would probably choose the 300wm with a 26" barrel. That combination would provide better ballistics than the 300wsms with their 23" or 24" barrels. As far as the 300weatherby is concerned,if I wanted that much velocity and recoil,I would skip the weatherby and go instead with the 300ultramag.The 300ultramag offers better ballistics with brass and ammunition costing the same or less.

I would probably get the .300 Win Mag just for the availability of factory ammunition. However, the .300 WSM is known to kick less and can develop more velocity in a shorter barrel. Could also be a better candidate for a shorter lighter rifle. .300 Weatherby doesn't interest me much either - an expensive alternative to a .300 Win Mag.

The .300 Winchester Mag has been around for years and years and years. It has taken big game from antelope to kodiaks, and it is accurate enough that people have used it in match competition. Field proven reliability gives it the edge in my book. If I need my rifle to be an inch shorter and an ounce lighter I will just go to the gym a few more times before I hit the woods. The only way I might go with the WSM is if I had a semi. The shorter case probably operates better out of the semi action.

I think the 300 WSM is here to stay and I believe the ammo selection will get better and better. I agree with Stubble though. If you want the lighter rifle, go with the WSM if not I would pick the 300 Winchester version. I would also go with the heavier rifle for me IMO.

The 300 win mag hands down. The free bore on the Weatherby is egregious. Personally, I don't like any of them....but the win mag is the best of the lot. What you going to use this beasty for???? Regards, Rick.
