Go to Walmart and check out their combo deals. They usually have '06s and .270s w/ scopes for decent prices. Either that or check your local classifieds for a used gun w/ scope...

Rebel Hogs idea of Guns America is a good one. I sold a gun there and it worked out great. If anything else it is a great way to quickley see what the market price is. I printed out the price from Guns America and took it to a local gunshop and he matched the price and got the business.

Stevens Model 200. Basicly a Savage 110 without the acutrigger. Poly stock and darned acurate. Most 110 will shoot at or under an inch if you take the time to find a load. but 1.5" is fine.
You can probably buy one in '06 for around 325 bucks, leaving you 150 for a nikonprostaff. or leupold rifleman Or if optical quality is important, consider a fixed power scope at 3x or 4x. You can find a used US made Leupold M8 in 4X on ebay for 100-150 bucks. I keep my scopes on 3x ,ost of hte time anyway so I wasted the extra bucks on the variable power thing. Plus fixed power scopes are lighter, tougher and do not shift zero as easily. GOOD LUCK.
