Default Used Custom Sako, is this a good deal???

I've found a used left handed Sako AVstainless in 338 win mag. It is custom done by Mark Penrod, and includes Douglas SS24" Barrel, Necg adj.front sight, removable Sako rear peep sight, bedded McMillan fiberglass stock, action plated with electroless nickel. The rifle is in excellent condition, but costs $1600!I've heard a lot of good things about Sakos; but is this a good deal, or should I keep looking [&:]? Thanks

In my view, no. Customizing a Sako is like customizing a corvette.....why??? You can find real nice LH Sako's in 98%+ on GA for under a grand. Good luck, Rick.

Nope, I believe you could have all this done yourself with a new barrel. Now if you know the guy and know of the life of the gun, then yes.

I think it's worth it. I sold a Sako .223 custom gun for $1200 and that gun should be worth more than mine. I'd say (without seeing it) thats probably close to market value.

That isn't nearly as nice as mine was. In fact that israther "plain jane" as custom Sakos go IMO.

It is custom done by Mark Penrod,
Mark is a fairly well known gunsmith and his work is among the best. Very few are considered better. $1,600 is likely 25% of what it cost someone else to have it built.....or some fraction of original cost......is it worth it?.....only you can say that for sure.

This much is for sure.....it's your money and you must decide what your tastes are in rifles.
