Is savage a good gun??????????

I bought mine when JFK was the President-Elect. I used it enough to take the edge of the accuracy and had it rebored to a 6.5 mm wildcat called the .263 Express. Nowdays they call that round the .260 Remington. I think the best ones came after the '64 redesign and before the Satin Slide bolt. I don't think much of their synthetic stocks, they remind me of the ones from Butler Creek, kinda rubbery where they should be stiff. I think there are some models with a bedding block, they ought to be really accurate. I'd buy another if I was lookin' for an inexpensive rifle, maybe even the Stevens 200 without the accutrigger.

Bought my first Savage this past winter and am very impressed with it. Some say they are not as pleasing to look at but it's not that bad, especially once a scope is mounted. I will buy another in the future.

Bought my Savage 110 in .270 5 years ago as a package with a scope. I love that rifle it is without a doubt my most accurate rifle I own. The only thing I had to replace on it was the scope it came with, the Simmons broke replaced it with a Bushnell. I am a Savage fan so I say buy it.

For the money IMO you can't beat them, especially the new ones with the accu-trigger. Also they are making a line of rifles marked with the name of Stevens on them, they should be about the same rifle but with no accu-trigger, you should be able to pick-up one of those for less than 300. I have a Savage .204, its pillar bedded and has a floated barrel, its the most accurate rifle I have ever owned especially right out of the box.

As much as I like Savage rifles, the one thing I can warn you about is the synthethic stock. It is too light and pretty flimsy, especially if you are thinking about something with a bit of recoil to it like a 7mm Rem Mag. I had a 300 Win Mag and I ended up replacing the stock on it with a laminated stock. Other than that, I have found nothing wrong with the Savage rifles.

Ditto frizzellr.... Their synthetics stocks are crap, everything else about them is right on. I have a 10ML-II muzzleloader that shoots legitimate 1" groups at 100 yds. If they can achieve that kind of accuracy out of a muzzleloader, I would expect a great shooting CF.

My old Savage is the most accurate gun I own. I have owned it for almost 23 years now and love it. I have a 110 .308 lefthand rifle and it fits me very well. The wood like all guns made around the same time is pretty crappy but the mechanics of the rifle are superb. Mine has the dechachable mag too which I really love.
