OEH, I will carry a Turdy-Turdy(Without Scope) in the swamps with PMC 150gr
"Star Fire"for a 25 or 30yd shot on a hog, before I would carry my 250-300yd
.243 (With Scope)

And this is what I said on my last post on this subject

only advantage I can see is the 30/30 can be carried in one hand and is handy for certain applications . Put a scope on it and it and the handiness is gone and it becomes a long range wannabe.

So you see RH I agree with you

Geesh maybe we can bring back another Walmart thread..this one is like pulling teeth

More people are killed each year by a golf ball than a fast pitch hardball, actuall i dont think any are killed by a hard ball. Wonder why? Could it be because of the velocity of the golfball. LOL!

30 30 for bear. without a thought, 243 for deer. much longer range, much more accurate, flatter trajectory. my favorite gun for deer. take the 30 30 when I am either pushing and don't expect a shot, or in tight tree stands.

I am just so convinced that velocity is king. I am going to take my 223 down to Missouri next season, hook up with my son for a hunt, shoot a deer in the arse and blow bambi's brains out.

I take my vote with Roskoe, and many others, sounds good to me. vangunsmith. I know a professional bear guide and thats all he uses on bear is a 30-30, and he has killed many in his day.

Of the two calibers my choice would be the 30:30.
