What line weight, length and action is recommended for fly fishing for steelhead? Do you prefer Loomis, St. Croix, Sage, etc.? Any recommendations on fly reels?
Thank you for your input.

Haven't fished for steelhead in quite some time, but one thing is for sure, You want a reel with a smooth drag system. Get the best you can afford and you won't be sorry later.

Gundigest.......what type of water and where will you be using it? steelhead fishing done best can get a bit specialized depending upon the waters you are fishing.........
Eastern Great Lakes can range from light #5-7 long rods typically of 9'6" and 10' to protect fine tippets and enhance drifting/mending to more typical saltwater/bass style 9' #7/8/9wts if you might also encounter Salmon.
Out West you typically have much bigger brawling rivers where heavier gear and even Spey casting rods can be used effectively.

I build custom rods and I want to build a nice rod with a cool butt wrap to sell. Thats why I want to know what every one likes to use so I can build a rod people want.
