1. Casting...GLoomis only cast about 10 feet farther...same reel, lure and line and line capacity...both were refilled today with Trilene XLHad to use my thumb to slow her down..the GLlommis wants to cast farther..I hate back lashes so only cast at about 80%..Fenwick I use 95% and it stops by itself.

2. Catching ability ..went 1 for 2 on the Fenwick and 1 for 2 on the GLoomis....bites are easier to detect on the Gloomis.

3.The big difference..feeling the bottom..my BB shot Texas rig I can't feel the bottom very good with the Fenwick{ Feels like your going through mud}...I can feel the sand and stones with the Gloomis...same lure.BB shot and trick worm

4.Lightness..After 4 hours the Fenwick felt like a broom handle..the GLoomis still felt lite..

5. Fish bites...Fenwick..you are not sure Gloomis leaves no doubt..

Fun to fish ..GLoomis makes casting a little more fun..with smoother cast..the eyes on the rod are much smaller but not micro.

I plan to get one more..Both rods are 6 feet 8 inches..

The newness has worn off..I really don't want a new one..they are nice but I want to use a rod that I don't have to be tooo careful with..like the Fenwicks...I will most likely make my new 7 footer my flipping rod..as the Gloomis guides are not under warranty..and you are not supposed to exceed 17 pound test..Well, I use 40 pound braid..I read on one review of a man using braid and fought an 8 pound bluefish..the braid split one of the guides..not good...I don't like worrying about stuff like that..It's a nice bumping rod or shoreline pitch rod but I want a rod I aint got to worry about when I go in the cat tail jungle...That would be a Lightning Rod or Fenwick..I used them last year and they were warriors...thus the reason I don't need no more expensive rods..glad it was a gift..I like stuff I can toss in the boat...drop in the water and retrieve it..just good ole having fun rods..

Need to be honest..took out the Loomis today and had one of the worst fishing days ever...

Boated 4 for 10 ...not good..

A couple may have been dinks but here,s a few I should have had..

1. Pitching a shoreline...feel tension..set the hook ..fish was wrapped under a bush..Did NOT feel the bite.
2. Pitched ..a big big bass sucks up the worm and swims 5 feet and is now under the boat..I did not feel a thing..by the time I tried to hurry up and set the hook..too late..and it was a 5 plus..
After I lost 4 more I asked the Lord for advice as He tells us to in Proverbs3..,"In ALL thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct our steps"I normally treat all bass bites as if they are a 5 pound bass,..my heart told me"because the rod is much lighter..treat the bites as if they are 7 pounders..Set the hook harder..I then boated 4

Matt also struggled..missed his first 8...he had a beauty on a crank bait..he loves cranking sandbars first and foremost..he was drifting a black worm over a sandbar. The wind was tough. He thought he was stuck on a rock..lol..the rock moved and the fight was on..The entire bass cleared the water like a tarpon..He was thumb spooling her..and he felt relieved when she was netted. His only bsss of the day..but a winner for this time of the year.

But, seeing how your son wants to buy it for you then what the heck.. The problem I would have is that I would be treating it to special and wouldn't want nothing to happen to it. No scratches, dings, or anything at all. Then I would end up asking myself why do I have it? But a gift is a gift so why not? Anyways good luck and have a great day with your son..

I took this line from what I put in your baitcaster post.. That would also be a problem with me. I would try and spoil it. That way it can stay like new. Maybe after you have it for a while it may change though.

But a gift is a gift right? It is still nice to have though. I put that rod as the same thing for me to have a new pick-up truck. I would be to nervous to take it down the back roads because it just might get a scratch on it. I wouldn't dare to throw to much on back of it ect.. ect.. So I try to stick with the cheaper version.. Used and then I do not hurt the truck none at all..

In 2 days I've lost 75 per cent of my worm bites...The only thing I can think of..she lacks power..tooooo darn light.if I am forced to keep it ,it will be a crank bait rod.

I did call BASS PRO. And they said I can get my money back...She's going back tomorrow..I 'm thinking of a St.Croix 7 foot MH spinning rod..

I set up my Fenwick and Team Diawa and missed no fish..went 5 for 5..so I know it ain't me..

Final review for the Gloomis...for the money...junk...if you want extreme sensitivity.put on some Power Pro...lol

Bass Pro was very nice..the lady literally tossed the Gloomis in a shopping card and credited the money to my credit card..After walking around the store twice..I ended up purchasing nothing...

I'd rather by stuff I need off of eBay...I don't need another rod or reel.
