I have tried scents on catfish but never had any luck. I use live bait most of the time.

I' m with mharrisatuwg try to match the hatch. I mostly live bait but believe in scents. I often use live scent like tipping a jig with a tiny piece of bait, such as a 1/4" piece of live crayfish tail on a crappie jig. This is a killer.
