Most fish will die after about 5 / 10 minutes out of water...so no bashing maybe necessary..

Catfish are different...I do them fast..quick cut behind the big pointy sticker..cut skin around fish...slit belly..and skin fast..fillet..and cut off head..the other species will die after 5 / 10 minutes out of water..

Those I scale...and fillet leaving the head on. less than 45 seconds a fish.I leave the skin on these fish.

Clean'em as soon as i get home, alive or not, just hold them down when you start or theyll flop around!!!

about half way through the proccess theyll eventually die!!! then its just the nerves twitching!!!

If you got a fish and want to kill it just turn it upside down and slice up to the backbone just behind the headand then you can fillet it out and it'll be dead quikly. Any movement is just its nerves but try to keep it alive as long as possible until you fillet it. If you have a weak stomach I wouldn't recommend filleting them while there alive.
Good Luck.

Just stick your finger into the fish below the gills and pull that little piece of stuff conecting the gills to the rest of the fish. The fish will be dead in no time as you have just ripped it's neck out.

Come to think of it..channel locks across a catfishes head will work as well..Generaly speaking, I only keep bluegills and crappie..
These were fun to clean.[8D]the smallest was 9 inches and the biggest was 11 1/2 inches..
