Thats the way to start
If you can buy a casting plug or two - practice - practice in your yard and don't forget to spool it with some El-Cheapo line the 1st go around.

I went catfishing in a local pond and was using half oz. weight and was still able to cast over a hundred yards. So, with the quarter oz. I should still be able to get close. Part of the reason is my gear. I have an Abu Garcia 6500 on a Tica rod. This setup is known for long distant casts.

Start an S with your pole before your head and cast out over your head as the S is finished also..And as others had said. Set the cast control knob to fall at a steady slow rate as they mentioned...
Clearer.
Start the S infront of you and continue it back behind you and bring it forward over your head and cast at the end of the S.. Is that better description??? It's actually a piece of cake after a few tries...
