So, can I get a a quick overview on colors of bass baits?
I am under the impression that the darker the water, the darker the bait, is that even remotely correct? But what about how bright it is outside, or the cloud cover and stuff like that?
Im wondering because I was looking on here and I noticed everyone seemed to like a white spinnerbait, and I read somewhere that black and blue is kind of a go to color when nothing else works. So last night I bought a white spinnerbait, a black and blue spinner bait, and a black and blue buzzbait.

ahh i cant remeber how it goes...
i know when its dark(night time) use a black bait...not sure why that works...
i was also wondering the same thing though...in terms of light availability(cloudy etc..) and water clarity...(muddy, green, clear etc)
someone should school us...i been thinking about it a while and always forget to post or look it up...

Well, heres my colors and why..
when I first came to Florida I ssk all the successful fishermen what the best color was...Some said grape and one man swore by black curly tail.
They are both dark colors. i also remember reading somewhere that red makes bass aggressive..so I also use red shad alot. Simply from having success...I've tried many colors ..My top colors for rubber worms are..
Red Shad.
Grape...Christmas Tree
Black ...or black with blue tail
The reason why I only use white spinner baits...I try ot match the hatch. In th emorning small gizzard shad are schooling on the shoreline and getting attacked by bass. They are white.
Therefore I only use white weedless or Rooster Tail spinner baits or chatter baits....I also use a silver top water lure..
my rattle traps are chrome with blue back
Crappie jigs have red head and white body..
"If it works... don't fix it." is my motto.

I agree...I like Black and blue chatruse tail or black and green tail
When I first came ot Fl. I would drift a rubber worm and fish the shoreline with a white Rooster Tail..I've lost count of how many bass over 5 pounds I've caught with that spinner...When I learned how to flip and pitch...my numbers of rubber worm 5 or bigger increased greatly.. I always flip first and if that fails...I go to deeper water.
I haven't fished my Rooster Tail in a while..it's tiem to get that baby back out. my only concern are those small hooks.
When all else fails...a slow retrieve Rooster on the bottom {Make sure blade is turning} is very deadly. I use to keep largemouth in a large tank an dobserve them...90& of the time they stay on the bottom. At night they would be very active...so a little flickering bait fish {Rooster tail}in the bottom of a lake has a good chance of doubling the rod.

when the water and air is dark use darker baits. when the water is murky use darker baits. when the water is clear use whites, greens, brights and more realistic colors
