i am going to buy one to keep in my pack while training the beagles. i am looking at the standard GI model. they run about $500.00 for the cheaper models. i just need one that can be bounced around in the pack and not need much attention. what kind of luck have you guys had with these. and how good do they shoot.

Are you meaning the 1911-A1?? If so I just bought one and so far I love it, only had to spend 400 for it. It is a Springfield Milspec, parkerized finish, and world war s replica. I had a lot of guys here say they really liked them, so I got it, and am very impressed so far. It is very accurate, and dependable. But I would recommend getting one with dots on the sights, since mine just has black non adjustable sights, ad they are a little hard to see. Hope this helps you out some.

I got a Mil-Spec 1911-A1 last year for 400 and it's been a great little shooter. Once I found a load it likes, it will cut tiny groups all day long. So it's accurate, sturdy, time proven, and simple to break down ................. sounds like the perfect beast for what you're wanting to do with it.

I have a Springfield 1911A1 Mil.spec .45 in parkerized. I love it, as it's an exact replica of the one I carried in the Marine Corps.
In something like 500 rounds, I've had absolutely zero malfunctions. I have to agree, though, target aquisition with the military sights isn't the quickest.

I've been eyeballing the Springfield 1911-A1s also. I've had a Gold Cup Mk IV Series 70 since the early 1980s and love it to pieces for target work, but it would be nice to have a travelling companion also that could digest a steady diet of hardball without worry.
Sounds like most of you guys that have one think pretty highly of it. I haven't bought a handgun since 1987 or so; I just might have to take the silly California test for handgun buyers, get the certificate and buy me one of these!

Well, I weakened and bought one of these today. I probably should have spent a few more bucks and gotten something with the three dot sights, since I can't see worth a hoot anymore, but this thing just looked the way it should, and I'll have to shoot in stronger light, I guess!

it finally quit snowing. got a chance to shoot the new 1911. i live out in the country so i can shoot off my rear deck. i have a pistol range right in the backyard. i have a medal target out about 60 yards. anyway i loaded 7 rounds in the clip took carefull aim and started to shoot. after the snow quit flying i walked to see how i did. ------------well lets just say i need more practice.----i never hit a darn thing but boy did it put a smile on my face. there is nothing like the first time you pull the trigger on a new gun.
