Sorry to have made you tear up ruger!
You know the 742 was a very popular gun . i have one i have had for some 23 years i think. there is no comparison between the 710 and it in quality but it had flaws. thus came the 7400 . but folks back when this gun was on the market wouldnt have even picked up a 710. heck dealers would not have ordered one!
Anyway the situation with parts makes me consider selling my old 742. and it looks almost new.not many like it anymore.
But then again other gun companys make disposables. the 22/45 from ruger the zytel ? i have one but i bought it to be rough with. it is a good tote gun but nowhere near as nice as a slab side mkII.
So i guess maybe the 710 has a place in the economy gun owners case.
you know when i first saw a glock i thought "who would want that?" then i shot one and saw how good they shoot. they appear to hold up well so my first impressions were wrong.
But, there is always a BUTT!,the glocks action never felt as crappy as the 710 to me .
But it is not just limited to the 710. i had to send a 11-87 back cause it had a chunk of the reciever just break off! Now we are talking about a $700 shotgun! they fixed it but still. i could talk all day about good and bad guns. folks can spend there money on whatever they want i guess.

Dothework<BLOCKQUOTE id=quotequote:
So go get your ungodly expensive rifle and go pump another couple hundred rounds off to make yourself feel better about being you. Meanwhile, leave your closed-minded uneducated opinions in your head.

Hmmm, very first post on this board with a remark like that?? Welcome to the board Dothework but know this, not only is that starting off on the wrong foot here, it was just plain rude.....many of the long term members of this board have/do know not only their personal gun stashes rather well but are very knowledgeable about firearms in general..... and almost always give very open-minded well educated opinions.

My suggestion would be to enjoy the board for what information you may have to share, what you can learn here from all opinions shared and presented by board members.....and leave the personal attacks towards other members or their opinions alone. It is against the posting rules. Just a thought.......

Catfish369, I initially read your post out of the context that you meant for it to be taken in. Which was I believe was to point out,
quote:
that
simply because they had "heard from a friend of a
friend of a friend that new someone that had one"
wasn't a good enough answer .... and that if they
wanted to add a valued opinion .... an opinion that had
"meat" behind it, they needed to shoot the rifle for
themselves and then decide

I would tend to agree with that. You, Sir have my apologies.

Its not what you harvest...
Its what you learn...

My younger brother bought one of the 710s in 30-06 - and while it may not be pretty, it killed a deer this year and cost half as much as I paid for my used 700BDL back in 1989.

Granted, I wouldn't trade my 700 (Certain Death) for anything, but he didn't want to drop $600 or more for a gun he was only going to shoot half a box through each year (if that).

After all the bashing of he 710 just wanted to add my .02 cents.First of all I don't own one and wouldn't unless it was all I could afford, yes they are cheap, that was susposed to be.I have talked to several that do have them and they love them,if one had it in a 30/06 he was wanting one in a 270 and vice ver.If that is what the guy wants and likes there is nothing wrong with that, and more power to him or her.If the gun companys didn't make something that sells we would all be left out because there would be no gun companys, and if the 710 sells for Rem.to keep it afloat then good I can have my 700 and etc.
I can think back many, many years ago, I would have loved to have a 710 or any kind of rifle, that was when guns were dirt cheap compared to the low priced guns of today but money was very hard to come by.I have 2 that I have kept through the years, one cost $29,and one cost $39.
So if you have one and like it,injoy. And like me don't care for them don't buy one and injoy what you have.

At one time, the Model 710 was the ugliest, cheapest piece of $hit on the market!! What a joke. But Remington proved, yet again, that they can create something even uglier, and now, that is the Model 673. I would never own one, too many different choices of better guns out there to pick from. Whether they are new or used.

That 673 is not cheap. It may be ugly but it's reliable.

I am not a gunsmith or competition shooter, but I can recognize 3/4 inch groups from 100 yds. I shot 3/4 right out of the box with Hornady 150 and 165 grn 30-06. I am planning on elk hunting this next season and if I drop my rifle on the rocks or have to sit in the rain while I stalk a bull, I would rather it be a $350 TACK DRIVER than a $700 tack driver made of wood. I hold no bad feelings towards those that don't like the 710, but look at it for the purpose it was designed for... the lower budget market that will not be taking it to long range shooting competitions. Bottom line it is a tack driver and I don't mind dropping it on the rocks.
