Steve,
I was in Wal-Mart yeasterday and there was a Beretta 390 autoloader in 20ga for $529.99. These guns are discontinued from Beretta's line up and been replaced by the 391. The Wal Mart guns are simply left over stock. #3 years ago these guns sold for $750 and up. There are very few changes from the 390 to the 391. My opinion is that the Beretta gas system is the best available. It's a self cleaning, self regulating sytem . The gas works on a piston system that's made of metal. The Browning and Winchester guns have several nylon parts within their system and several of my friends have had problems with their's. Although, the Remington is time proven and works very well, They have an O-ring for their gas seal. My experience has been that this is the first thing to break or get lost and always at the worst time. The Wal Mart Beretta is a great bargain. Ask around I'm sure they'll find you a 12 ga if they don't have one in stock.
