savage 93r-17 glv
well i finally got to go out and do some shooting today after owning the gun almost a week
i was very impressed with the savage rifle that i paid just over $200.00
i dont know quite how to word it
but for the money this is a very high quality rifle.
the bolt is smooth
the hevy barrel is well blued
the stock has a decent finish
the rifle shoots sub moa groups out of the box
the trigger is a little heavy but is very tolerable
total cost of my new toy $568
$223 for rifle
$250 for leupold 3x9x40 vx II
$35 for rings( rifle comes with bases)
$25 for new cleaning rod and brushes for a .17 caliber
$35 for 200 rounds of ammo
after shooting it well worth every penny
savage gets 2 thumbs up from me

jjt glad your Savage shot well. I have a Savage 93 17 S/S & Synthetic stock. I just mounted a scope a few weeks ago but haven't shot it yet. From your report I'm excited about trying mine out. If only time would allow.

did you mount the scope yourself, or did you have somebody do it for you? The reason I ask is that I finally got to take mine out for the first time on Fri. I mounted the scope myself(used the scope off my 710 to get by until I can swing a new one). I had to go something like 150 clicks left at 50yrds to get it right. Is this normal or did I screw something up when I mounted the scope? I thought it was a pretty simple procedure, unscrew the rings from the Remington, move the whole thing over to the Savage, and tighten the rings back down. After I got it on the center of the target, it shot very well. Just a little concerned about the number of clicks to get where I needed to be. BTW, the Remington was dead on at 250 before I took the scope off.

i mounted it on the rifle myself at 100 yards it was 7 inches high(28clicks) and 4 inches left(16 clicks)
this was out of the box new so there should have been no adjustments made previously
if you have the time i would take the scope out of the rings the rings off the mounts and the mounts off the rifle make sure there is no dirt burs or anything else hindering anything then put it all back together and try again
it also might just be one gun was opposite the other if the scope was set to compensate for left and high on the previous, and the mounts were high and right on the savage it can very easily double the difference

I figured out what the problem was...I had to move one of the rings a little to get it to line up with the mount on the Savage. Appearently, I wasn't paying attention when I tightened it back down and tightened on side more than the other. I haven't fixed the problem yet but will before the next plinking trip.

jjt, I read your post and being that I'm lefty also, I went out and got myself one of these too. I paid 210 for it. Your right the trigger is heavy but first 5 round out of it using Remington premium ammo shot 3/8" at 50 yds. About 2 high and 2" left of bull.
A little scope adjustment and moved the target out to 100 yds and proceded to shoot a 3/4" five shot group. To say the least, I was impressed. If I could get a gunsmith to work on the trigger and bring it down to 4 or 5 lbs I think it would even be better. The trigger doesn't pose too much of a problem on the bench, but in hunting situations, it may be too heavy to provide as accurate a shot as the rifle is capable of.
I took the action out of the stock and noticed a set screw in front of the trigger. I loosened the nut and back this out about 3 turns and it seemed to lighten the trigger by about 2 - 3 lbs. but it also put a tiny bit of creep in the trigger.
