Get the Benelli. It's a great gun and will serve you for many years. As a beginner, I normally wouldn't suggest such an expensive gun, but since it's on your list, I'd say go for it. The resale value (should you decide you don't want to continue) is far more than any Remington.

I have owned a Rem 870 for many years and love it. I recently bought the Benelli Nova. I haven't even taken it hunting yet but I do love it too. It feels good in my hands and "comes up" well. We have a snow storm coming to N. Idaho in the next couple days so I'm going out to get some geese.
I haven't weighed the two to compare weight difference but the Benelli feels lighter.
I have fired three shells through the Nova just to see if it kicked harder than the 870. They were 2 3/4", 3" and 3 1/2". It may have a little on the 2 3/4" and 3" but it still felt good.
The 3 1/2" did of course. I'd never fired one before either.
I'm not a "sky popper" for ducks and geese but now that I have the 3 1/2" Nova I know I can reach out farther on my last shot at escaping birds and feel confident about dropping one.

Happy shooting!

The Nova is a nice pump, but the one major problem I noticed with the one I borrowed for turkey hunting last spring was that it rattled alot, I don't know if it was just this one or if the Nova's in general make alot of noise. But when I placed my hand on the pump/slide? to bring the gun up it was noisey. I can't complain since it wasn't mine, but I thought it made to much darn noise and decided against a future purchase of a Nova.
I decided to wait and purchase a semi-auto sometime in the future.
Good Luck

Pauly, you're right. My Nova rattles too. I noticed just carrying it around. After reading your reply I went to the bedroom to rattle the Rem. 870. It's not as loud as the Nova. The Nova slide is plastic (synthetic) and is louder. I still love it though.
