I'd recommend the Howa in stainless/synthetic in .270 caliber. Light kicking and very accurate round. It will kill deer sized game from up close out to 300 yards easily. The rifle usually goes for around $399.00. Then put yourself a decent scope on it like the Nikon Buckmaster for around $250.00 (includes rings and bases) and you're ready to go to the range.
Buy several boxes of ammo (different makes and bullet weights) and go to the range. Shoot from a bench position and shoot for groups. Once you find the brand and size of bullet that your rifle likes (smallest group), stick with it and sight in.
Then you're ready to go.

Savage has good package deals. Either a 270 or 7mm08 would be a good choice.Whatever you do stay away from the Remington 710.Don't let a smooth talking salesman talk you into a 710. Since you're young buy a rifle that will fit you as you grow. You can find NIB Ruger M-77's for under your 500.00 limit. They come with scope rings. You'll have to buy a good scope for it.There are allot of good deals out there for those who do their homework.
