The best deer rifle is the one you are the most comfortable with, and confident in. The rest is personal choice . . . you know: Ford or Chevy!
One major consideration in my country, is what shells are they selling in the local stores? No sense in going with the 7mm-08 if you get to camp and find out you forgot to pack that box of shells! And the local furniture/pharmacy/appliance/music/sporting goods store only had 30-06 and 7mm mag. (Happened to a friend of mine).

How do you like that 710 remington? I know now that the reciever is metal as of 05. They shure have taken thier share of criticism and I am always anxious to hear about it from an actual owner/user.I am thinking of getting one in the future in 7 mag or 300 mag. I dont mind the pressed barrel and I like the 60 degree throw. EJ

i have a model 710 in a .270 and its a pretty good gun. i like it pretty well. ive killed two deer with it and they shoot fairly good gropus as well. the 700's are great though, i have a .243 in a 700 and it amazes me but also i have a ruger m77 mkII in a 7mm mag and i would have to say its my baby.

BLR 308 is my favorite, loaded with 150 gr win power points and simmons 1.5-6power scope. This combo is good for any deer, anywhere out to 250 yds, and recoil is barely noticeable.
Most deer fall in their tracks or run only 5-10 yds, and I always get a big exit hole, wheter I hit the shoulder or not.

You would be hard pressed to find a better deer rifle than the 700 Remington in 270 OR your favorite caliber. My second choice would be the 7600 Remington in 270, 308 or 30-06. Many other calibers have also been made in the Remington pump. They are as accurate as most Bolt guns and in the four I have owned I have yet to have a malfuntion of any kind.
