Yeah I think I' ve put an X-Nay on the .243 and decided on a large caliber.

Are you going to hunt with this rifle eventually? If so, choose that caliber accordingly.

If it' s just for target/fun, choose one that is accurate and fairly easy on your shoulder. I target shoot with .223, .243, 7.62x39, .308, and .300WM. I don' t mind the heavy recoil of the .300WM at all. I can shoot good groups with it. But, if I were to choose one single gun to shoot all day, I would grab the .223 or .243.
When reloading or buying ammo, these two calibers are MUCH cheaper. However, when shooting at 500 yards, the wind effects the 200 grain bullet out of the .300 a lot less:)

Keep in mind that you don' t have to have a 30" drop at 500 yards, you could have it zeroed at 300, 400, or 500 yards. This is fun by the way.

As far as my trajectory charts that you asked about, I get mine from one book. These are very " rough" charts, and NOT updated to recent factory ammo. And doesn' t account for handloads. If you' re interested the book is by Outdoor Life Publishing, title is " GUN DATA BOOK." Really original title, eh?:D

Oh for sure I don' t have a single rifle sighted in at 100 yards. Most are 3" high at 100.

I think with a muzzle break, mercury supressor, bull barrel, heavy stock, and comfortable recoil pad that the big calibers will be verry manageable.

My buddies 7STW weighing at 5 pounds is only similar to that of a 270. It has the mercury supressor, recoil pad, and muzzle break only.

Are you sure that rifle only weighs 5 pounds? I would be shocked to hear that it weighed less than 7. especially with the mercury supressor.

Well I wouldn' t bet my life on it. However a respectable company called Match Grade Arms builds them. It is a custom Gun and is called a Ultra Light. They have milled actions, fluted bolts, etc..

I would same that I am sure it only weighs 5 lbs.

That' s pretty damn light, I' d love to carry something that while deer hunting. It' s amazing how heavy an 8 pound gun can feel after carrying it all day.

I' m not a gun smith but another thing that the gun uses is a schedule/level one barrel. Extremely thin barrel if you ask me and with it 28" it' s amazing that the guns is as light as it is.

My friend the gun smith that works for Match Grade arms tells me that they weigh 5 lbs and I can only take his word for it. I know for a fact that the Ultra Lights do weigh less than any gun that I own.

As for accuracy I can say that groups of 5 at 200 yards less than 3"

That' s not too bad for accuracy at that range. I wonder if it would shoot better with a little more weight.

I' m sure because of the thin barrel that there is some flexing that could be elliminated and made for a more accurate rifle.

It usually cost a consumer $2800 but if you talk with them and work a deal it could be a considerable amout less like $1400.00 which would be my cost. This includes a Vari X-III 3x9 or 3.5x10

They are in business to make money and I do have a friend that works there so my calculations could be wrong. Don' t hold me against any of thise prices. $1400 is what Ray said he would build mine for. Be it a vamint or ultra light.
