I just purchased a 300 weatherby mag. vanguard. Does anyone else have one and if so how is it scoped and what dso you think of the gun?

The vanguard is simply a howa rifle with the weatherby name stamped on it.They are good quality and offer a lot of value for the price.

I had one in that same caliber. It was as good as most guns and a lot more accurate than most real Weatherby' s.
Someone that had more money than brains thought he needed it, or I would still own it.

i have owned a wby 30-06 since 1970 and it has taken it' s share of deer.i thought i always wanted a 300 wby mag.i traded a 700 rem 30-06 for a new 300wby mag.i have a swift 4x12x40 on it and it is sighted in at 250 yds.the only complaints i have are terrible trigger pull , recoil and noise.i have used all the trigger adj and still have 10#pull [it seems like it].if i could get the trigger pull to 1.5-2# i would like it if it drops them in their tracks like everyone says.

Loner-My earlier made howa was sold under the smith and wesson name and the trigger would adjust to 3 lbs.Newer howas only seem to adjust down to 5 lbs or so as I have adjusted a few.You would not want a trigger under 2 for safety reasons.As to the 300wby dropping in their tracks,it is a good cartridge but is in no way any type of magic cartridge that always drops any animal in it' s tracks.There is no cartridge built that will always do this especially since no shooter can always place his bullet exactly where he would like to every time.

For the money,you can' t go wrong! I have one in a .300 Weatherby and after I tuned up the trigger,it' s a shooter...

PaJack,were you able to ajust your trigger?i used all my adjustment and still have rough pull and seems like 4-5#.do you know if the sear adjustment at the rear of the trigger will help the pull tension?

Do not adjust overtravel or sear adjustment.

I have a Vanguard in a 7mm Rem. mag. and love it. I have a B&L 3000 3x9x50 mounted on it for about 5-6 years and it works fine. Since you are shooting a magnum, get a good quality scope. I would not hesitate to recommend a B&L 4200. They are clear, attract good light, take a pounding, and priced right.
