.45 VS 10mm
#1
I needed a bigger sidearm for pig hunting and wanted a semi auto. I bought a pre-owned Sig P220 .45. I also could have went with a Glock 10mm for $50 less. I chose the .45. Now I am second guessing my decision based on the bullistic performance. I chose the .45 because of ammo & reloading and the history behind the round. It seems like the good ole .45 always does the job. What do yall think?

Well you hit the nail on the head, the 45 is probably the best semi-auto sidearm cartridge out there today. It gets the job done effectively and consistently. A Sig Sauer 220 is a very good gun, i wouldnt be second guessing the purchase. If you had the money you could just go out and buy the 10mm also and then you would have both of them. Cooper, the 1911 guy, actually really liked the 10mm, so the 10mm should be a good cartridge, but since you got the 45, you should be set.

I don't think you need to second guess your decision. The flying ashtray is a legand. .45 has so many ammo options one of them has to be to your liking.
Personally I have never been a fan of 10mm.
Just wondering but why the need for a semi-auto?Ever give any consideration to a big classic mag suck as .41 or .44?

My shooing buddy just got a S/W .500. But I actually sold my CZ.40 to upgrade to the Sig .45 so I had to replace my semi auto. The .500 is on my wish list. I like it better than the .44 mag. I have shot both and the thunder the .500 brings is awesome. He is going to scope his and I guess I will have to keep up with the Jonezez.

The .500 brings new meaning to "overkill!" (Not that I have anything against overkill) The .44 will take down anything that I would shoot with a handgun! As far as the auto's go, don't think twice about the .45! There is a good reason that it is #1, at 100 years old!

I like the .45 and a 1911 is on my wish list, but let me note that on every single handgun website I frequent that evaluates the .45 compared to XX cartridge, the history and legend of the .45 is what is most frequently mentioned -- not performance advantages.
I like the .45 but from a raw performance on game perspective I don't see much argument to be made that the 10mm is not more effective.
If you shoot factory ammo, I think the .45 does gain an advantage in terms of available loads. If you roll your own like me, however, the 10mm wins again.

If & when I get me a .500, it will be more for novelty than actual hunting situations. I agree that a .44 mag is all thats needed. I do roll my own as a matter of fact but I need a few things. I have the die and enough brass to get me started. Now Ijust need powder, primers and bullets. The shelves are bare in all surrounding stores. The gun show in Reno NV was a joke. Over priced EVERYTHING! You would think that they would wheel & deal but nope. Rigid and firm.......thats why I left the show and went to Cabelas Gun Library for my Sig. No powder or bullets at the gun show but I did get 2000 lg rifle primers but no large pistol primers.
