I' m thinking about picking up a single shot rifle, was wondering which rifle most people like and why? The handi rifle or the encore?
Thanks

I' ve shot several Handi-Rifles. The accuracy seems to be hit or miss. I saw the extractor blow off of one of them in .223 Remington, but the guy was using handloads - so I am not sure if that was the gun or his bad handloads. I' ve only handled the Encore; however, the difference in quality seems night and day in favor of the Encore. Though, the price tag is night and day as well.

I have no experiance on the handi rifle so I can' t comment on it but I do have a T/C Encore. The only thing is that I haven' t shot it yet but I will say that I' m very impressed with the action. It' s solid and very nice to handle. From what I heard it' s very accurate but time will tell

Everyone has an opinion and this is only mine. I had a H&R single shot and again i say i had. The experience i had with mine wasn' t a good one.The only way i solved the problems i had with it was i sold it. To begin with the accuracy wasn' t good with factory loads or handloads unless your ideal of accuracy is 2" at 100yds but it isn' t for me. Next the cases would stick after i shot the gun which was a real pain in the *ss. I sold mine to a guy who is a gunsmith and he said it appeared that the chamber was slightly oversized but he still bought it for the price i let it go, i guess he can fix it. I tried all kinds of loads, had a trigger job done on it, floated the barrel, bedded the scope rail, and just to be sure it wasn' t me i had a couple of guys who i consider great shots to shoot it with the same results. I agree these guns are inexspensive but i got cheap results as well. I was trying to cut corners and save money so i bought the H&R. If i ever buy another single shot it will definately be the Encore. I' ve never shot an Encore but i handled one after i sold my H&R and like already mentioned you can feel and see the difference in quality like night and day. I agree the price tag is alot higher but you also get a better quality gun. Maybe i just got a bad one or something. Again this is only my opinion as i' ve heard other people praise these guns and say they were great rifles for the price it' s just that mine wasn' t. God Bless!

I have a NEF .223 in synthetic light weight. Weighs under 6 pounds, I use it for coyote hunting. I get 1" groups at 100 yards with it right out of the box.
I shoot the 45gr bulk Winchesters that come in packs of 40ea.
Paid $192. for the rifle. You can get them rebarreled at the factory for other calibers for $80. Then you have an interchangeable caliber rifle, and all you have to do is take out one screw.
I will definitely buy another one. I am also teaching my 8 year old son to shoot with it. He seems to be able to handle it pretty easily and enjoys shooting it.

First of all let me say that you are comparing apples to mangos. You do have to pay more for mangos right? Anyways, there is nothing wrong with H&R rifles. I have one and I did have a problem with it not latching properly so I sent it to the factory and they fixed it right up and sent it back. They stand behind their product and will honor the warranty. Now as for accuracy, it really surprised me. With the 243 Win barrel I can hit a quarter at 100 yards, with the 45-70 Govt barrel I have a big ragged hole. Fit and finish is tolerable for the price you pay. Now the Encore is the ultimae in single shot rifles. I handled one not long ago and the design, fit and finish was just leaps and bounds above, then again so was the price. Comes down to money and personal preference. I don' t see paying so much more for the Encore when I am happy with my H&R.

The encore. you can add barrels of any caliber you can imagine in the future. lots of ways to custom the gun. and great quality.
