25 WSSM is SMOK'N!

I bought a Winchester model 70 last year in 25 WSSM. I thought that it was a hot little round, but I am very, very impressed with this little bullet. I have taken 4 hogs, an axis deer, and a Red Deer with it and nothing has went further than 10 yards. My buddys son shot the first Whitetail with it and it dropped straight down. I am shooting winchesters 115gr ballistic tip. While I was really impressed, it was the 200 + lb boar hog that I shot a few nights ago that really got me. He went about 5-10 yards and that was it. I would recomend this round to anyone and especially kids. It has little to no recoil! A 25 on STERIODS!!!!

I'm shooting 115gr Combined Technology BTs out of my 25WSSM, and I have shot 2 large deer with it so far. The first one was a doe at a lasered 429 yards, she ran close to 100 yards after being shot (thru the boiler room), just a puddle of gelled lungs. The second was a buck at 175 yards, and his lungs/heart were also a pile of gel, and he still ran a good 60 yards. This is the first centerfire round I have shot a deer that has moved more than a few feet. Still not sure if I am impressed with it or not.

SB - Some of my buds bought the super short mags but couldn't get them to perform, in terms of accuracy/velocity, compaired to my handloaded 25-06. Glad to hear yours is workin for you though. BTW whats the velocity on that 115 bt load of yours? Brett

Winchester say around 3060 fps at the muzzle, but as we both know that can vary from gun to gun. I am happy with the accuracy and the performance so far. While I have MANY guns, this is not my favorite, but I am taking a liking to it! I am not one that jumped on the short mag band wagon, I actually bought it at our NWTF banquet for $210.oo right before winchester stopped making the 70. I bought it because of the deal, but am very suprised with how well it's doing. The furthest animal I have shot with it was about 200 yards (pig). If I was headed on a monster buck hunt, I will be carrying the 7mm STW, but the 25WSSM has done really good so far!

well you understand wrong, its the twin to the 257 roberts, the 06 has a 200 fps advantage over it,

Per Winchester Ammo, the ballistics of the .25 WSSM are equal to ballistics of the .25-'06 cartridgesPer Winchester Ammo, the ballistics of the .25 WSSM are equal to ballistics of the .25-'06 cartridges

Extremely potent, the 25 WSSM produces ballistics equal to the 25-06 cartridges

Looks a lot closer to the 25-06 than the 257 bob to me.

I think in real life it is closer to the .257 Bob. They usually publish loads to make it look a lot closer then they really are. Just read the charts again, they are EXACTLY the same! Impossible!

Haven't we all learned that published factory velocity numberscan be highly suspicious? If you want to get your eyes opened, get the loads chronographed.
