I'll agree the 17 is a great shooter as long as the wind isn't much over 5mph. I have quite a few buddies that own them (I haven't bit the bullet on one yet). The problem is in South Dakota the wind is always blowing and making shots over 75 yards on jackrabbit sized critters gets to be almost impossible without a spotter.

Skeeter--
Ran a .17 boresnake with some cleaner on it after every 5 rounds for the first 50 rds. After that, I considered this rimmer broken in!! She shoots very well with the 20 grain XTP's and I'll keep that load since its under a dime at a 100. I put a BSA sweet 17 on there in 3x12x40 AO. Very nice set up.
Neighborhood Kitty's ain't gonna' like this very much!!!LOL Let 'em come in my garden now!!!

I've shot about 500 rds through mine and I didn't do anything to break in the barrel. It has a SS bull barrel so I just cleaned it with a bore snake after I came home from the range each time. I honestly didn't know you were supposed to do anything special. By the way it is an awesome gun, I just wish the ammo was a little cheaper. My kids and I had fun shooting 9mm casings off the target backstops at 50 yrds the last time we were at the range. My youngest son actually shot a piece of kite string in half at 25 yrds that was holding up a target. I told him to see if he could hit it kind of joking and he got it the first shot, now that's accurate. My Savage is the cheapest most accurate gun I own.
