870 Tactical
I am thinking about getting one of those 870 tacticals for upland birds and for use as a camp gun. I know I'll have to plug it for the birds but other then that I think it would be a good bad weather gun. I think it would be good medicine for bears in camp. Does anyone have any input.

The 835 is the ultimate in versatility. You can shoot upland game loads one hour, switch chokes and hunt geese or turkeys with 3.5" shells the next hour, and put in buckshot and/or slugs for bears.
The ability to have 2 and 3/4, 3 in and 3.5 inch shells is very nice as is the porting, back boring and choke tubes.
They are also cheaper than the tactical 870.
I also like the Mossberg 500 "special purpose mariner". It's designed for tough environments like salt water. It's a 3" chamber.
