Aguila super max hyper velocity ammo. 30 grn bullet at 1750 fps.
CCI Stinger with a 32 grn bullet at 1640 fps.
CCI quick shock with a 32 grn bullet at 1550 fps.
CCI velociter with a gold dot 40 grn bullet at 1450 fps.
Federal hyper velocity with a 31 grn bullet at 1550 fps.
Remington viper with a 36 grn bullet at 1410 fps
Remington yellow jacket with a 33grn bullet at 1500 fps.
Winchester Power point with a 40 grn bullet at 1350 fps.
I tried all of these and some standard and high velocity rounds this summer in two rifles, a model 60 marlin and a savage youth model bolt action.
I shot them at 50,75, and 100 yards and compared the accuracy and drop of each round. I also compared it to my 17HMR.
The best performers for me in the hyper velocity rounds were the velociters, stingers, winchester powerpoint and the remington viper rounds. All getting 1-2 inch groups at 100 yards with decent over all trajectories.
The Aguila's are crap in my opinion, don't waste your money on them. I could not even tell what kind of trajectory I got out of them because they were so innacurate out of both my guns. I have heard simular accounts from others as well. In my gun they were dirty as well, like all the powder was not burning or something.
If you notice the heavier bullets did better for me. While the speeds were not as great they shot much better and were still pretty flat.
I simply loved the CCI velociters. If I were to get another .22 for hunting I would see if the gun would shoot those well. I was really impressed with them. I was getting 1 inch groups with both rifles at 100 yards with them. I got better groups with them then the three brands of target ammo I tried. Next up would be the winchester power points for me, but I have always had good luck with winchester ammo.
The others are probably decent as well, my guns probably just didn't like them is all. Except the Aguila, if you want to try them, don't get more than one box incase your experiance is the same as mine.
Incase you are wondering the 17HMR blew them all away. I fired three shots from each distance 50,75 and 100. It put all nine shots in a hole a dime could cover! That was all three ranges put together with no hold over or correction. Man I love that little gun
.
Oh, I forgot to mention, standard velocity .22 ammo is between 1000-1280 fps with 36-40 grn bullets. This would be standard and high velocity ammo together. The faster bullets listed above would fall into the the hyper velocity .22 amunition I believe, a few of the slower ones may not.
You also might consider a 17HM2 it is based on the .22 stinger case but uses the 17 grn .17 cal bullet from hornady. It's the baby brother to the 17HMR. It goes about 2100 fps, the HMR is around 2600 fps.
