RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Well..........I am the proud new owner of a Stealth Cam. Got a model MC2-G. I can't wait to see what it picks up. No WI, I did not charge it! Just so happens my cousin had a brand new one never used - sold it to me for $50. I stopped at Walmart on my way home and got me a bunch of alkaline batteries. I will have it set up first thing tomorrow.
Now to decide where to set the thing up???? Welcome to the team BlkLab..... Are you guys getting excited or what????!!!!:D:D:D |

Just so happens my cousin had a brand new one never used - sold it to me for $50. Sounds like something I would make up. JK. Sounds like you got a good deal. Get that thing in the woods and lets start seeing some pictures. Are you guys getting excited or what????!!!! |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
$50 is a great price. If you have any more cousins wanting to give steath cams away, let me know.
I leave next Wednesday for the high country. I have already started to gather and pack equipment. I can hardly wait!! |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
I'm starting to get really excited about this coming season. I've got big expectations for myself this year. The last few years I have been right on the verge of really coming into my own as a trophy bow hunter. After 10+years of bowhunting, I feel like I am just beginning to understand how to consistently take mature bucks. I've taken my lumps along the way, with several misses, many close encounters and one tragic bad shot.
I fully expect to harvest 2 mature bucks this fall. we shall see how it pans out. Good luck to all. Good shooting. BTW, welcome aboard Ed, hope you can produce a MO monster for us! |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Just in case you guys haven't seen it....WallyMart has a StealthCam on sale this week for $59 and odd change..... so did I really get such a great deal??;)

RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Hi all, thought I check back. Was in the woods yesterday and set up 2 stands on my Brother inlaws farm [man Im tired][&o]. Set up a few mock scrapes and cleared some trails. I also got down the Game Feeder and, salt licks from the woods, they must be out 1 month before the season[:@]. Heading out on the Delaware river Friday to set up some more stands and check things out. Then next week I will check out and finish with some more stands on some of my spots along the PA Turpike. The one spot thats a real honey hole we must cut a trail about 250 yards long through thick brush and briers to get to this spot. It will be a real jungle this year with all the rain we got in PA this year. But it is well worth it. Checked out the Champion and new Bowtech tonite to make sure they were still shooting bulet holes, they were:D> Only 30 days til. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! See yea:)

RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Can everyone please let me know what you want to do about mnrut. Sorry about the red but I figured it would get your attention. I have sent him 3 emails. I am being asked to give a list this weekend of how many alternates we will need. I don't want to replace a guy that may want to be on the team but I don't know how serious he is. He joined August 7 and last login was August 12. He posted 39 times in that 6 days and has not been back since. I will go with the majority that respond to this by Sunday. I will be out from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon hanging stands. Got 7 to put up this year.:D
|
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
If he doesn't check in today, I say get an alternate
|
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
I think he has plenty of time to sign in. Since he hasn't posted since Aug. 12th, I would take it that he isn't very interested in the contest and what is happening. It's possible that something has happened to keep him from being online and that would be unfortunate. Since the season is starting for some hunters we need to move on.
Besides...I have our logo ready and it has our names on it. I didn't want to post it and then have to make changes. So..... let's get our alternate and get on with the game! I put up my Stealth cam yesterday. I think I have a good spot overlooking a well-used trail. I tested it and the light was blinking at all angles and a pretty good distance. I can hardly wait to go get it and have the film developed. How many days should I wait - it's only a 24 exposure roll? Last night I seen three different does and two fawns. And this morning there were 3 small bucks. These deer were looking for the salt/mineral lick at the edge of our yard, which I removed yesterday as per PA's rules...... Later, Jen |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
PAhunterJEN, I like to leave my camera out for atleast a week before I check it. Usually, if I just put it on a trail, I will have anywhere from 0-15 pics. If on bait, I could have up to 199pics in a week.
Only checking weekly also reducing your chances of messing the spot up by laying down too much scent. Be careful with putting cams out in you honey holes. |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Don't worry DC....I didn't put it anywhere near my stands. I hope I can wait a whole week to check it!!!;):D
|
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
He's in. I just got an email from MNRUT. I told him to post here soon. Guess we have a full team.
Jen - Lets see that logo.:D |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Great, we may be one of the only teams to have all 10 original members!!!
LOGO!!, LOGO!!!, LOGO!!, LOGO!!! |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Hey PAHUNTERJEN, nice to see you play by the rules. Getting them salt licks out of the woods by our PA GAME LAWS. If we can't do it the right way then why do it at all. YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;)
|
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Jen, I just saw the team logo and it looks great. Good job!

RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
OK guys.... If you want to use the logo, here's what you can do...
The photo is located here (just copy and paste to your broswer): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...N/2Lucky13.jpg You'll need to right click on the photo and then click "Save Picture As..." to save it on your computer. Right now the photo is too large to upload into Huntingnet, so you will need to then upload it to a website host such as www.photobucket.com You will need your own account to do this. There are other places on the net you can upload photos to also but Photobucket is free and easy. Of course if you have your own webspace you can load it there instead. Almost forgot....after you have your copy uploaded to Photobucket (or wherever) you need to add it to your profile in the signature section. Here is the code you will need: Insert above link between the two "image" codes on the next line. If you have any problems you can email or send a private message and I'll try to figure it out for you. I'm not an expert but I can usually get the job done soomehow. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? Do you like the logo? I hope so. The biggest problem I had was finding a nice photo that wasn't copyrighted. Also, our names lost their brightness when I uploaded it. Do you think we'll get any outside votes in the logo contest? MNRut: I apologize for jumping the gun and counting you out. It was nothing personal as I don't know you anyway. I guess I was just anxious to get this logo going for our team. Welcome to the team....and please tell us about yourself! JEN |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Just me again....making sure I got my logo working in my signature......
|
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Like I told you Jen I think it is great. Did you plan the 13 point buck. I am counting the small nub below the right browtine on the deers right. On the left I am assuming the G2 splits and the very tip has a split right at the end. I think that makes 13.:D
Anyway great job and thanks for the work. |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Actually WI, I didn't plan it that way. As I said, I had trouble finding a buck photo that wasn't copyrighted. I was wondering if anyone was going to count the points! I looked at that little 'nub' and thought that if it was pointing in our direction it could be an inch long. :D And yes, I believe the G2 and the tip splits:D
Thanks! |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
I was wondering if anyone was going to count the points! |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Oh and I know what you mean about the copyright thing. I think quite a few of the other team logos are probably in violation of that.[:'(]
|
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Sorry,
but I am somewhat of a computer retard. Jen, I followed your instructions, I have the new account and I have the picture saved in my new account but I will need more detailed instructions to get that logo tagged to my profile. |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
How about that, I got it. Thanks for your help Jen.
|
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Had to take my stealth cam down...[:@] I know the camera recommended using Kodak film, but I had Fuji and put that in. Well, don't ya know I find out later on (from Cabelas) that the Fuji film won't advance past one photo! Of all the *^$^%$&ing nerve!!! I read every post I could find on the forums here and I do not recall anyone saying not to use Fuji. Oh well, back to Wallyworld for more film. Maybe I'm just not meant to see what's in my woods?[:-]

RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Jen,
Sorry to hear that. I just got back from the cabin and don't have much this week on the trail camera. Two small bucks and some does and turkeys. 13 pictures in all. I did get 7 stands hung and two gound blinds set up. Last year I was watching a nice 8 point that I never did get in close. He liked to use this one certain ridge but I never got a chance to hunt that spot because I didn't see him until almost gun season and never after that. Well the sign was there like he is still using that ridge. I have a great setup on him and I just need the right wind and a buck tag to hunt it. Should be a great year. STILL 13 days to go.[:@] |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Jen awesome logo:)!!!! The directions helped a lot being that I've never had a picture on a sig. Sorry to hear about the problem with the deer cam. I too try to read all the posts about different different new things I'm planning on buying. As with this year I bought a whisker bisket. I read all the posts and it never mentioned that using one would decrease your arrows length by 2 to 3 inchs. This was a huge problem for me because I was planning on buying the rest and a dozen arrows cut to length from eders. Instead of ordering off the internet I desided to go to a new archery store here in town. I saved a lot of time and frustration by just going to the store. Well I'm off to pratice shooting. I'm going to pratice shooting broad heads today being that the season starts in 9 DAYS!!!!!!! I can't wait, I just hope it cools off before opening day because it is 90 degrees now.
Enjoy your Labor Day!!!!!!!! |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Thanks KardKutter... I'm glad that you got it all figured out. So, you only have 9 days to go. I think it is 26 days for me. Such a long time. I know what you mean about the 90 degree temps. I missed recovering a doe last year due to the heat. Hopefully things will cool down this year. Plus, I hope the skeeters aren't as bad as last year.
Well, off to re-hang the StealthCam again. Ya know, when I opened the darn thing up it didn't want to rewind the film - half the roll was exposed even though it said that only one photo was taken. That means I could have possibly seen what was in the photos. Oh well, live and learn. |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Is it working?
|
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Yep
|
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
I'm off. I leave this morning for the hunt. It's a 6 + hour drive and the toyhauler will probably add another 1 1/2 hours to the trip. I plan to check things out tonight and tomorrow.
Hunt begins on Friday and the weather forcast is rain for Friday. The plan is to hunt Friday to Tuesday morning and then come back Tuesday night. If you don't hear from me before you guys head out for your hunts, best of luck to you. |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Best of luck PLB. I am guessing you won't see this until you get back but I will be thinking about you. I will be getting out on the 18th. Gotta get that doe so I can get a buck tag.
|
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Been trying to pattern the big boy!!!

RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Nice buck DC. I sure hope you can find him once the season opens. I just can't seem to wait anymore. I just gotta get out there.
|
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Wow DC that is a nice buck. Jen wouldn't that be nice to catch a deer like that on your deer cam. PLB good luck on the your hunt.
Well I suffered a bit of a set back today just one week till opening day. I was practicing shooting today, I was hitting nice groups/clusters. I was just about to call it a day when on my last shot BANG my arrow hit the target and my bow shook violently. I looked down and my bow string was on the ground!!! My string broke on the top cam. I had my bow all set to go out and now this. On a good note my bow will be ready Monday, but I'll have to retune it, attach the peep, kisserbutton, string leechs, and cable guard slide. Has this happened to anyone else and if so how differently did your bow shoot? I hope the season starts off better for all of you. Happy Hunting KK |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
KK sorry to hear that. I have never had anything like that happen. I would think that once you get a new string on it you should be able to get it set just like you had it. Of course you will have to break the string in. I guess that can take 200-500 shots. Looks like there will be a lot of shooting for you next week. Keep us posted as to how it is coming. Maybe we can be of some help. I don't know that I can be but someone here might. Good luck to you once you get the bow shooting again.
On another note if you have not heard Jeremy from team 20 (huntingnet) is planning some sort of prize for the winning team. I sure hope this doesn't cause some one to cheat on the "FUN" contest. Based on everything I have learned from my team mates I am not worried about this team. Let’s just win this thing fair and square. I know we can do it. Thanks guys and gal. I hope everyone has a safe and plentiful season. Good luck to all.:D |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
Got my seeds for several small food plots. Going to till', drag, plant, fertilize, drag this weekend. Have one Imperial Clover 1/4 acre plot on its third "fall". Will be planting two more 1/4 acre plots with Austrian winter peas, oats and Pennington brand "Rackmaster" clover blend in a power line right of way. Then in small openings in the woods I'll plant a mix of the peas, oats and Shot Plot. Lots of work.
Went to check on my feeders this past weekend. Several tracks of a giant hog. Give you an idea on size. I put my middle fingers together and thumbs together, thats the size of the print. Last time I developed film from my trail camera I had photos of three bucks, nothing giant. Four pictures had been taken since last visit. I have 25 acres in east Texas 17 miles from the nearest town, Grapeland. I hunt with a rifle as well as bow. I was at the rifle range with my 10 yr old grandson, Ben, a little while back. He shoots a NEF single shot in .243. He breaks open the gun the shell pops out he gets a smell of burnt powder looks up at me and says, "Peepa, this is more fun than the Bugs Bunny Log Ride!" Now THAT is what its all about!!! |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
"Peepa, this is more fun than the Bugs Bunny Log Ride!" Now THAT is what its all about!!! I can remember when my son was 2 and I took him rabbit hunting. The snow was a little over a foot deep so he was having a hard time. After about 5 minutes he called to me and said "Daddy, this hard work for me." I unloaded the shotgun and carried him for over an hour just walking in the fields. It was probably my most memorable hunt. Let's see some of those pictures that you have when you get time. I do love to see trail camera pics. Good luck with the food plots. I know what you mean about work. I have a post on the wildlife forum here about my oats and extreme with some pictures. Sure is worth it though. |
RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread
